Description: CV14_SEAI_1, from 15th April to 3rd May 2014 on the Celtic Voyager. Mulitbeam data collected using EM3002. This area was surveyed for Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland(SEAI) AMETSin conjunction with the ongoing Infomar project, a joint seabed mapping project between the Geological Survey of Ireland and the Marine Institute.There are 4 seperate area files called CV14_SEAI_1_Offshore/GalwayBay/Coastal and Aran.The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) contracted the Marine Institute (MI) to undertake a hydrographic and geophysical surveys offshore County Clare in April 2014. Offshore Clare is an area of interest to SEAI under its wave energy programme. The survey augments those carried out by MI on behalf of SEAI in 2012 and 2013 respectively. Marine Institute conducted seabed mapping between 2003 and 2005 under the auspices of the Irish National Seabed Survey (INSS) and from 2006 to present day under the INtegrated mapping FOr the sustainable development of Irelands MArine Resource (INFOMAR) programme. INFOMAR is a joint venture between the Geological Survey of Ireland (GSI) and MI. The programme succeeded the INSS which was one of the largest marine mapping programmes ever undertaken, with a focus on deep water mapping. INFOMAR is focused on creating a range of integrated mapping products of the physical, chemical and biological features of the seabed in the near-shore area. The programme is funded by the Irish Government through the Department of Communications Energy and Natural Resources (DCENR). INFOMAR intends to map three priority areas and twenty six priority bays around Ireland by 2016 and to have Ireland’s entire seabed mapped by 2026. The survey area extends from Hags Head in the north to Loop Head in the south and offshore to the 100 m contour. It is approximately 1750 km2. The majority of the area lies within 50 to 100 m water depths although much shallower depths are found in the inshore parts. Tidal currents are weak but the area is subject to the Atlantic swell. In 2012 the RV Celtic Voyager mapped approximately 547 km2of the area and a further 909 km2 in 2013 A total of approximately 291 km2 not including nearshore opportunistic locations and crosslinesremained to be mapped at the start of the 2014 survey season. See survey report from for more information.The Ocean Energy Test Site in Galway Bay was also designated for survey. The test site is located approximately 1.5 km east of Spiddal, in 21 to 24 metres of water.The primary system for gathering the multibeam data was the Kongsberg Simrad EM3002D multibeam echosounder, hull mounted on the vessel and operating at a frequency of 293kHz to 307 kHz. C-Nav 3050 receiver with DGNSS corrections is set as the primary positioning and the data is reduced to Vertical Offshore Reference Frame (VORF).Geotiffs, XYZ line files, ArcGrids, Fledermaus scenes and google earth files were produced from the bathymetry data acquired.Sustainable Energy Authority Ireland (SEAI), and INFOMAR Project, a joint seabed mapping project between the Geological Survey of Ireland and the Marine Institute.
